Can Hypnosis make you Happier?
This Hypnotherapist says it makes her happier!
Angela Vincent is a Clinical Hypnotherapist in Tasmania working with clients Australia wide thanks to Zoom and she knows she feels better after delivering and receiving Hypnosis!
Anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, nightmares, relationship break-ups, loneliness and grief are all reasons people seek out Hypnosis and for good reason. It offers a place for the body and mind to experience moments of relief from their emotions and thoughts and gain some sense that it can feel better in real time. We work with the very difficult and we can offer some space between the pain and their urge to genuinely feel better.
Here are some reasons Angela finds the world of Hypnosis impactful in a positive and at times, humorous way and here are some of her why’s…
Hypnotherapists often possess a unique sense of humor that sets them apart in the world of therapy. Here's why they tend to be funny:
Engaging and Relaxing: Humor can be an effective tool for engaging clients and helping them relax during hypnotherapy sessions. A light-hearted joke or witty remark can instantly break the ice and create a more comfortable atmosphere, making it easier for clients to enter a state of hypnosis.
Builds Rapport: Humor can strengthen the rapport between hypnotherapists and their clients. Sharing a laugh creates a sense of connection and camaraderie, fostering trust and openness in the therapeutic relationship.
Dissolves Tension: Many clients come to hypnotherapy with underlying stress, anxiety, or tension. A well-timed joke or humorous anecdote can help diffuse tension and lighten the mood, making it easier for clients to address sensitive issues and explore their emotions.
Facilitates Change: Humor can be a powerful catalyst for change. By injecting humor into the therapeutic process, hypnotherapists can help clients reframe negative thoughts and beliefs, challenge limiting beliefs, and adopt a more positive outlook on life.
Creative and adds Flexibility: Hypnotherapists often need to think on their feet and adapt their approach to meet the unique needs of each client. A playful sense of humor allows hypnotherapists to approach therapy with creativity and flexibility, exploring new techniques and interventions to achieve therapeutic goals.
Models Relaxation: A relaxed and lighthearted demeanor sets the tone for the session and encourages clients to let go of stress and tension. Hypnotherapists who incorporate humor into their practice serve as role models for relaxation, demonstrating the benefits of a positive and light-hearted attitude towards life.
Enhances Memory and Learning: Humor has been shown to improve memory and enhance learning. By weaving humor into hypnotherapy sessions, hypnotherapists can help clients retain information more effectively and internalize positive suggestions for change.
Boosts Resilience: Laughter is known to boost resilience and help individuals cope with adversity. Hypnotherapists who use humor in their practice help clients develop a more resilient mindset, enabling them to navigate life's challenges with grace and humor.
Creates Lasting Positive Associations: Clients who associate therapy with positive emotions and experiences are more likely to continue their therapeutic journey and make lasting changes in their lives. Humor creates a memorable and enjoyable experience for clients, fostering a positive association with hypnotherapy.
Celebrates Progress: Humor can be a powerful tool for celebrating progress and milestones in the therapeutic journey. Whether it's cracking a joke to lighten the mood during a breakthrough moment or sharing a laugh to acknowledge a client's achievements, hypnotherapists use humor to affirm and celebrate the progress their clients are making.
All in all, hypnotherapists use humor as a versatile and effective tool for promoting relaxation, building rapport, facilitating change, and creating a positive therapeutic experience for their clients. Through laughter and lightheartedness, hypnotherapists help clients tap into their innate potential for healing and transformation.

Hypnosis for Weight loss and the neuroscience
Combining hypnosis and neuroscience for weight loss is a fascinating topic!
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in using hypnosis as a tool to support weight loss efforts, and neuroscience has shed light on how hypnosis can potentially affect our behaviors and habits.
Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, where individuals become more open to suggestions that can influence their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In the context of weight loss, hypnosis can be used to target specific behaviors and habits that contribute to thoughts about eating, overeating or unhealthy eating patterns.
From a neuroscience perspective:
Hypnosis has been shown to influence brain activity and neural pathways associated with behavior change. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have demonstrated changes in brain activity during hypnosis, particularly in regions involved in attention, perception, and self-awareness. These changes may help individuals become more receptive to suggestions aimed at promoting healthier eating habits and lifestyle choices.
One way hypnosis can aid in weight loss is by targeting the subconscious mind, where deeply ingrained beliefs and behaviors reside. By accessing the subconscious, hypnosis can help individuals identify and address underlying issues that may be contributing to weight gain, such as emotional eating, stress, or low self-esteem.
Hypnosis can be used to reframe negative thought patterns and beliefs about food, exercise, and body image.
Through repeated sessions, individuals can reinforce positive attitudes and associations with healthy behaviors, making it easier to adopt and maintain a balanced approach to eating and exercise.
It's essential to note that while hypnosis can be a valuable tool for weight loss, it is not a magic solution on its own.
It works best when combined with other evidence-based strategies, such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and behavioral therapy. Additionally, individual responses to hypnosis can vary, so it's essential to work with a qualified hypnotherapist who can tailor the sessions to your specific needs and goals.
Overall, the combination of hypnosis and neuroscience offers exciting possibilities for supporting weight loss efforts by tapping into the power of the mind to foster positive behavior change and promote long-term success.
Consistent effort and mindfulness-based Hypnosis provide an excellent platform for a life free of the blocks around body image, strengthening the body and nurturing and nourishing the Body for a positve relationship.

The Neuroscience of Hypnosis: Unravelling the mysteries
Hypnosis has long captured the imagination of both scientists and the general public.
From stage shows to therapeutic interventions, its allure lies in its ability to tap into the inner workings of the mind and induce a state of heightened suggestibility. But what exactly happens in the brain during hypnosis? In this blog, we'll delve into the fascinating world of neuroscience to uncover the mechanisms underlying this intriguing phenomenon.
The Brain in Hypnosis:
At its core, hypnosis involves a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility. Studies using neuroimaging techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) have provided valuable insights into the neural correlates of hypnosis. One key finding is the alteration of activity in brain regions involved in attention, such as the prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate cortex. These areas show decreased activity during hypnosis, suggesting a state of reduced self-awareness and increased receptivity to suggestion.
The Role of the Default Mode Network:
Another important player in the neuroscience of hypnosis is the default mode network (DMN), a network of brain regions involved in self-referential thinking and mind wandering. Research has shown that hypnosis is associated with changes in DMN activity, with reductions in connectivity between regions within the network. This disruption of the DMN may contribute to the sense of detachment from the self often reported by individuals undergoing hypnosis.
Hypnosis and Brain Connectivity:
In addition to changes in activity within specific brain regions, hypnosis also appears to alter functional connectivity patterns across the brain. Studies have demonstrated changes in connectivity between regions involved in cognitive control, memory, and emotion processing. These findings suggest that hypnosis may modulate the way different brain regions communicate with each other, potentially leading to alterations in perception, memory, and behavior.
The Power of Suggestion:
One of the hallmarks of hypnosis is its ability to harness the power of suggestion to influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Neuroimaging studies have revealed that suggestions given during hypnosis can produce distinct patterns of brain activity, even in the absence of external stimuli. For example, suggestions for pain relief have been shown to reduce activity in brain regions involved in pain processing, highlighting the therapeutic potential of hypnosis for managing pain and other symptoms.
The neuroscience of hypnosis offers a fascinating glimpse into the inner workings of the mind.
By unraveling the neural mechanisms underlying this phenomenon, researchers are not only gaining a deeper understanding of hypnosis itself but also shedding light on broader questions about consciousness, suggestibility, and the nature of subjective experience.
As our knowledge of the brain continues to advance, so too will our understanding of how hypnosis creates positive experiences and outcomes.

How can Hypnosis help?
Hypnosis is one part of the therapy provided by a Hypnotherapist. As a Nurse and Clinical Hypnotherapist, I combine my knowledge of the biology of the body and in almost all cases, I’m able to provide a lay (wo)man’s explanation of why it’s important to keep the stress hormones to a minimum and more importantly, how to do it with a few simple techniques.
You see, our body’s nervous system is fuelled by our minds’ response or our perceptions of fear and panic. We may not have saber tooth tigers to fight but that does not mean we’re not responding as if one is in front of us.
What does this have to do with you, I hear you thinking?
For women wishing to conceive after a long period of attempting to fall pregnant naturally simply approaching a scan, an Obstetrician appointment or just seeing a familiar medical professionals number come up on their phone it can be enough to release a fear and even panic response in the body. Our mind is often on the watch to avoid moments of extreme distress, prolonged discomfort or mental hurt. It is during these times that our body releases adrenaline which is counterproductive in the conceiving and birthing body.

Does hypnosis work?
It’s a unique playing field and one that continues to have its validity questioned despite the addition of fMRI evidence of what occurs in the brain during hypnosis as well as the newer area of the neuroscience of consciousness providing us with more defining variances between the waking state and state of hypnosis.
Good question!
I’m never disappointed when people ask me about what I do. Well, I get to hypnotise people for a living and a vast majority thank me, tell me I’ve genuinely changed their lives or the lives of a family member.

Clinical trial evidence consistently provides positive results for hypnotherapy effectiveness in reducing daily pain intensity levels in people with chronic pain.
Hypnotherapy harnesses your ability to retrain neural pathways and develop new patterns in the brain and body helping you reclaim control and relieve unrelenting chronic pain.
Chronic Pain and illness is debilitating, exhausting and extremely stressful.
Chronic Pain is considered as pain that occurs most days of the week and has been persistent for longer than three months. It may include pain that no longer has an identifiable cause regions of the body that have physically healed and pain remains.
Other physical identifiable causes include:
· Arthritis
· Autoimmune syndromes
· Cancer
· Chronic nerve pain and bone / cartilage & ligament damage
· Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
· Complex Pain Syndrome
· Fibromyalgia
· Motor Neurone Disease / ALS: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
· Multiple Sclerosis
· Neuropathic pain syndrome
· Phantom Pain Syndrome
· Shingles
….. just to name a few.
It is estimated that 1 in 5 people suffer chronic pain. It’s complex and the cause and treatment options which suit one person may not be as adequate for another. Treatment options often require reviews to medications, changes to treatment recommendations and emotional resilience falling short at times due to the sea-sawing effect to ones’ ability to maintain healthy emotional reserves when the chronic pain remains.
As a person in chronic pain there are some real concerns to address such as their primary chronic pain site, mobility and mental distress as well as financial hardship. These issues present consistently for a person with chronic pain and their family as a decrease in their capacity to earn, ability to maintain social connections and their needs as a caregiver becomes compromised.
What we do know is that there is not one single treatment that alleviates all chronic pain. It takes good communication, support and the ability to advocate for yourself or your partner.
It often requires the combination of proactive strategies about how your mental and emotional health may be maintained and health care professionals focused on providing you with positive outcomes and improved quality of life.

Quit smoking with Hypnosis
Yes! Is my first response, however, it comes with some further investigations from under our Hypnotherapist caps. We want to know whether you think it works? Why and who suggested it and whether their opinion is held in high regard.
Does it really work for smoking?
.. that is the first question I’m asked when people hear about my day job.
Yes! Is my first response, however, it comes with some further investigations from under our Hypnotherapist caps. We want to know whether you think it works? Why and who suggested it and whether their opinion is held in high regard.
You see, we all have free will. Whether we are hypnotisable or not will make minimal difference if the purpose of smoking is providing a reward more significant to the person than simply quitting. Lifestyle habits, relationships and others opinions can create inner conflict and its effects may over-ride one’s better good at times. But never forget, every attempt is one step closer to the winning day as a non-smoker for good!
Are you ready to quit? To bring your plans and goals to the forefront of your daily, weekly and monthly plan?
Would you consider Hypnotherapy if you were certain one of several long-lasting changes could be installed such as never being able to consider having another cigarette ever again?
Perhaps you would rather not be drawn to the ‘draw-back sting’ at the back of your throat? Hypnotherapy can have the natural gag response to the smell, taste and sting at the throat enabling you to quit the cigarette with the support of anchors such as red traffic lights reminding your mind and body that you have quit and you’re committed to that change.
Or perhaps when you smell the carpet in a bar you are reminded of how unpleasant smoking is and you feel relieved as a non-smoker once again..
Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy Hobart Tasmania
And just like Monopoly you will imagine collecting $50 each time you pass the service desk at your local supermarket during your fortnightly shop rather than handing it over, and over and over.
How would you celebrate your improving health and wealth situation? A weekend away? A trip to a shop supplying your favourite past time bits and pieces?
MS Relief with Hypnosis
Since my early teens I have had a gut disease and this has created other issues as I have grown older including IBS and being overweight. The role of Hypnotherapist is a very rewarding one. Here are some words from a wonderful woman I've been fortunate enough to meet.
Since my early teens I have had a gut disease and this has created other issues as I have grown older including IBS and being overweight. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and this brought my world crashing down, exaggerated my existing conditions and adding new ones. As a sensitive, born worrier, anxiety was creeping into my everyday life and I wanted to find a way to control what I could control. I kept coming back to hypnotherapy.
I googled hypnotherapists who were registered with the AHA and liked the sound of Ange and felt her credentials matched the issues I was trying to deal with. With an open mind I went to my first visit and left with so much more than I expected.
Forget the media stereotype. I shared my problems with Ange and when I was under hypnosis she gave me tools to deal with those problems. At no stage was I out of control or not in charge while under hypnosis. This is a big misunderstanding in the public about hypnotherapy and one I have defended since to others that have suggested that I was not fully hypnotised if I can remember or was aware of what was going on.
After my first visit I left feeling drained but calm. I felt really comfortable with Ange and was so glad I made the visit. Her genuine concern, research and follow up went above and beyond and I felt (for the first time in a long time) that I was being dealt as an individual and not a “textbook case”. I ended up sharing much more with Ange than I ever set out to do and this is still having a positive effect on my well being.
It took a few weeks for me to realise the subtle improvements. My relationship with food choices and control is improving and this has helped with my health in many areas. I’m still working on the weight loss but I now looking at that as a lifelong goal of management! To be honest I have learnt now to recognise when my body is full and act on it. Knowing and doing are two different things and the mantra Ange shared with me and I continue to live by is to “eat no more, no less” than my body requires. I still need more improvement but I am moving forward!
One of the most positive outcomes that slowly emerged was a change in a long standing difficult relationship that I had endured all my life and couldn’t cope with. All my anxiety fell away and I was able to let go of the past and move forward in a more relaxed and less uptight manner. I did not expect this to happen and now look forward to having those relationships again. I can’t put a price on this and have no other explanation other than hypnotherapy brought about this change.
My experience with Ange has been nothing but positive and I hope to continue visiting whenever I am in the South of the state. I thank you Ange for the care you have shown and continue to show me.
It has been a pleasure collaborating with Jenny to relieve her distress and create change in her wellbeing and perception of her good life. Thank you!
